Join the Verda James Family Literacy Team!
Parents, community members, and staff members are invited to participate in this energetic, goal oriented, working team. The purpose of the team is to work towards our school and district goal of Literate Students, particularly to “partner with families to strengthen literacy skills for children from birth through grade 5.” If you have an interest in working together to promote literacy for all, please consider becoming a member of this team. Please contact Mrs. Daley, Mr. Ellbogen, or Mrs. Heisner if you are interested in joining us!
A HUGE THANK YOU to the sponsors listed below. Your support of our Family Literacy Night shows your commitment to literacy in our community!
We Read
The "We Read" program continues this year at Verda James. All kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade students will come home with a free book in support of our school district's goal of fostering literate students. Recognizing the crucial role that parents and caregivers play in creating literate students, the sponsors of this program will furnish a book each month to K-3rd students along with enrichment activities in the Casper Star-Tribune. Each K-3rd family will receive a copy of that day's newspaper at their home address. We hope you will enjoy sharing these books and activities! If you have any questions about "We Read," please contact anyone on our Family Literacy Team.
FRIDAY STORYTIMES
Our Verda James Family Literacy Team sponsors Friday Storytimes begining September 30, 2011 in our library. Families with children 0 - 5 years old are encouraged to join us for Mother Goose rhymes, fingerplays, and stories, as well as early literacy tips from Mrs. Daley, and take-home activities from Mrs. Kruse. If you would like to be on our email list for Storytime Fridays, please contact us!
